I’m a leadership and performance specialist, executive coach, speaker, and co-author of The Motivation Myth. Since 1997, I’ve been working with high performers—and high performers who aren’t performing highly—to elevate leadership, communication, and real-world results.
I teach people how to understand themselves—and others—so they can bring out the best in the people around them. My work blends performance psychology, coaching, and curiosity (lots of curiosity) to make work and leadership more human, more effective, and a lot more fun.
I live for deep conversations, unexpected insights, and those “light bulb” moments that change how someone sees themselves forever.
I coach, teach, and speak for a living. Rugby is forever love. And I’m a lifelong sports nut who’s just as comfortable in the boardroom as I am on the rugby field.
Meet Mattison Grey, M.Ed., MMC, CPPC
Mattison Grey is a master-level coach, leadership strategist, and mental skills consultant who has spent the last 27 years helping high performers get even better—often in ways they didn’t see coming.
She’s the founder of Greystone Guides and the creator of LeaderBuild and AcknowledgeFit, two frameworks that help individuals and organizations rethink how they communicate, lead, and perform. Her coaching combines the science of performance psychology with the art of connection—and her approach is rooted in curiosity, boldness and a deep understand of human nature.
Mattison is known for her ability to create powerful shifts in how people think, lead, and show up—whether she’s coaching a CEO, a startup founder, a pro athlete, or a leadership team in crisis. Her clients describe her as a direct, compassionate thinker who gets to the core fast and doesn’t shy away from tough conversations.
She holds multiple professional coaching certifications, including Master Master Coach (MMC), Certified Positive Psychology Coach (CPPC), and Emotional Culture Deck Certified Consultant. She also completed a four-year curriculum in coaching, leadership, and high-performance training. Since 1997, she’s coached thousands of individuals and teams across industries—from Fortune 500 companies to public service organizations to elite athletic programs.
Her client list includes names like Shell Oil, the University of Houston Bauer College of Business, Ameriprise, Aramark, Marek Brothers Systems, Memorial Hermann, Igloo Corporation, YMCA, and the Houston Police Department, among others.
A Career Built on Performance—In Every Arena
Mattison’s fascination with high performance isn’t theoretical—it’s lived.
She was an NCAA Division I athlete, attending the University of Iowa on a swimming scholarship. After graduation, she found her next competitive outlet in rugby. Within a few years, she was on the brink of a national team spot before stepping back to raise a family. Not one to sit still, she later returned to elite competition in touch rugby—earning a place on the USA Touch World Cup Squad and medaling at multiple national championships.
That same competitive spirit and deep understanding of mental toughness led her into the world of sport psychology and mental performance coaching. Since 2015, she’s served as the mental skills coach at the American Rugby Pro Training Center (ARPTC)—where her teams have brought home both national championships and Olympic invitations. She’s coached internationally, including with Richmond Women’s Premiership Rugby Club in London and as a guest coach with the U.S. Women’s Olympic Rugby Team in Chula Vista.
Beyond Titles: What Really Sets Her Apart
Mattison doesn’t just bring experience—she brings insight. She’s spent decades studying the gap between low performers and high performers—and what it really takes to move from mediocre to masterful.
Her work isn’t about surface-level success. It’s about helping people become better thinkers, communicators, and leaders—people who create results without losing themselves in the process.
She’s also the co-author of The Motivation Myth, which challenges the way we talk about performance and uncovers the unintended damage language can do to motivation and results. Her writing, workshops, and programs have been used by leaders across sectors to create high-trust, high-performance environments where people can thrive.
Whether she’s coaching executives, training teams, or speaking to a room full of entrepreneurs, Mattison brings a rare combination of strategic depth, sharp insight, and unshakable belief in human potential. She’s been called a “walking, talking connection”—and that’s exactly how she shows up: connected, clear, and committed to helping people lead from who they really are.
