Individual Coaching

Ask a hundred coaches What is coaching? and you’ll get a hundred different answers.

If you… feel stuck… need a muse… are underperforming… want a new challenge… feel like nobody gets you… think a career change is in order… feel unfulfilled despite being successful… need help with growing your current business… feel like you are underperforming, regardless of your success… are tired of getting advice from your friends who just don’t get it… are confused about people and how to get the best out of those around you… want to a start a business that allows you to express your brilliance in the world… have that nagging feeling that there must be something more, but just can’t seem to get a look at it… are unhappy with your current career or business, but feel stuck or just can’t figure out what to do next… I get you, and I know what to do.

Most coaching bios start with vague promises or buzzwords. That’s not my style—and I’m guessing if you’re here, it’s not yours either.

I’ve been coaching high-performing professionals, founders, and leaders for more than 26 years. I don’t do fluff. I don’t do formulas. And I’m not here to give you answers—I’m here to help you ask the right questions and actually get what you want.

My definition of coaching is simple:

Coaching is finding out what someone really wants and assisting them to get it.

Here’s what that actually means in practice:

Most people are chasing what they think they should want—goals shaped by expectations, comparison, or past identities. That’s why they stay stuck. My job is to help you strip away the noise, challenge your own thinking, and get laser clear on what’s true for you.

Once that clarity’s in place? We build. We design actions and habits that fit how you actually work. Not some perfect version of you—you, as you are, today. And we make the mental shifts that unlock confidence, creativity, and courage along the way.

Who I Work With

You don’t have to be in crisis to need a coach. You just have to want more.

I work with:

  • Executives navigating complex leadership and communication challenges
  • Founders and entrepreneurs re-imagining success on their own terms
  • High performers ready for their next level—but unsure what that even looks like yet
  • People in transition—career change, reinvention, or just a gut sense that “this isn’t it.”

What You’ll Get

Every session is rooted in connection, curiosity, and performance psychology. Expect a blend of direct questions, deep insight, practical tools, and sometimes a good, necessary push. I don’t shy away from real conversations.

This isn’t “accountability partner” coaching. It’s not therapy. It’s a thinking partnership for people who want to move with intention, lead with clarity, and create what actually matters.

Why It Works

  • Because I’ve been doing this for a long time—26 years and counting.
  • Because I see people—the real them—even when they can’t.
  • Because I know how to separate story from strategy.
  • And because I believe in your brilliance long before you do.

If you…

  • are underperforming
  • feel stuck
  • have that nagging feeling that there must be something more, but just can’t seem to get a look at it
  • are confused about people and how to get the best out of those around you
  • feel like you are underperforming, regardless of your success
  • feel unfulfilled despite being successful
  • are unhappy with your current career or business, but feel stuck or just can’t figure out what to do next
  • want to a start a business that allows you to express your brilliance in the world
  • think a career change is in order
  • need help with growing your current business
  • just want a new challenge
  • feel like nobody gets you
  • are tired of getting advice from your friends who just don’t get it
  • just need a muse.

One of the great privileges of my life is watching people develop, meet their own aspirations, build amazing lives that allow them to bring their brilliance to the world, serve others in the process, and achieve their most outrageous dreams.

Team Coaching

I can turn any work group—large or small—into a connected, cohesive team.

Executive teams, project teams, leadership teams, management teams—these days you can’t turn around without bumping into the word “team.” The problem is that saying you’re a team doesn’t make it so. Let’s face it: They don’t teach you how to build teams in business school, and in most companies, teamwork is a slogan, not a reality. Everyone talks about teams, but most leaders don’t really know how to organize or lead teams.

It’s easy to be a team when things are going well, but when the going gets tough, what does your team do? Difficulties can galvanize teams, but only if team members and leaders have done the groundwork and installed systems to navigate errors and failures.

To create and maintain high-performing teams, you must put in place a way to handle both failure and success. If you don’t, then connection and trust are not possible to the degree required to perform at the highest levels.

Over many years of working with teams, I’ve developed a team coaching and training process that turns any work group—large or small—into a connected, cohesive team.

Consulting

Most consultants and coaches are solving the wrong problems.

I understand people, and am happy to consult on any project that involves helping people overcome roadblocks, do better work, and have better experiences. I understand all the ways people underperform. I understand what causes underperformance, and I know what to do about it.

Often the issue with an individual, team, or company is not what it seems. I have a gift for listening to what people say and hearing what the real problem is—as distinct from what they think it is.

I use this gift in my coaching practice, but it is extremely valuable in consulting projects as well.

For a consultant to be valuable, they must be able to create results. Most consultants and coaches are solving the wrong problems. This lack of clarity is frustration for everyone and wastes valuable time and money.

Speaking

Mattison Grey - businesslike

I love speaking to groups! When I speak, I bring value, brand new ideas, a challenge to the status quo, and even a little humor.

With subtle humor, a little provocation, and a ton of value, I can quickly create curiosity and hold the attention of the people in the room. Audiences get to hear fresh, innovative, and sometimes contrarian content that consistently creates curiosity and value.

Examples of Recent Presentations

Let’s face it: Getting the best out of people can be challenging and frustrating. This content gives participants practical tools that they can immediately implement in their daily work. These tools can be applied in many different environments, including leading and supervising, selling, coaching, mentoring, and customer service.

Connection starts at belonging and ends at trust.

No more feedback sandwiches! Finally, a way to give feedback that works. Research indicates many leaders actively avoid giving feedback to their employees, and only 20 percent of leaders feel they can convey effective feedback. This talk solves the riddle of how to give feedback that creates receptivity and curiosity, instead of resistance and resentment.

Only eight percent of people actual achieve their goals, despite following the “SMART” goal structure. This talk gives practical tips for overcoming the limitations of traditional goal setting and implementing ideas to help yourself and others not just set goals, but achieve them.

Why people underperform, and what to do about it. News flash: It’s not more or better motivation.

“The Zone” is a real, often elusive, yet awesome state of performance. This presentation outlines a clear, reliable map to the zone.

How our language limits performance in others and ourselves.

Testimonials

I  hired Mattison to be the keynote presenter at our annual summit, and the feedback from the participants has been outstanding. Working with experienced professionals who have seen everything, Mattison brought new concepts to the table with a highly impactful teaching style. Thank you, Mattison.

I attended The Institute for Strengthening Families last month and fortunately was able to be a part of your presentation on April 12. This was far and away the best presentation I attended!

I love the spoken and written word, and am all about the semantics and subtle nuances of our language. After hearing you speak, I was so inspired to take action. I would like to know what steps you believe I would need to take to make this work a part of my life.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share this information with us. In working for the Department of Child Services, I have already begun to reap the benefits with the knowledge you have imparted.

I was fortunate to attend a summit this past week that featured Mattison as a speaker. She was totally engaging, personable, creative, and a clear expert on the subject of coaching. If you lead people through an organization, and want those people to do their best, consider Mattison as your guide. She is a great coach with tremendous insight. Thanks, Mattison!

As program chair of ABWA Galleria chapter, it is my job to find speakers who will provide real value. Mattison was our kickoff speaker for the year. She gave a unique and inspiring presentation on goal setting. Refreshingly not the same old stuff, but rather a unique and different viewpoint of much more use than the usual ‘goal setting is good’ variety. Everyone present benefitted from her talk. Clearly, Mattison is a person with the ability to see processes deeply and clearly.

Mattison was a speaker at our 100 Women of Vision Master Class series and it was an honor to have her. She brought her experienced and no nonsense approach to train on communication skills for having real sales conversations based on connection, not pushing for an agenda. The group on zoom received a lot of value and I had positive feedback from the participants. I would have her back again!

I highly, highly recommend Mattison as a coach, speaker or trainer. From even the very first session, the tools she teaches will greatly enhance your professional (and personal) skills.

Training and Facilitation

When was the last time you lost track of time in a training or seminar?

In a world full of recycled content and boring trainings, I bring value, brand new ideas, and fun to the training room. People tell me all the time how the time flew by. That is a sign of an inspired participant.

I have a knack for simplifying complex ideas and challenging topics. With subtle humor, a little provocation, and a ton of value, I can quickly and reliably turn a training environment into a learning environment, creating receptivity, inspiration, and an atmosphere where people can play full-out.

Part contrarian, part provocateur, and all value, as a trainer I am talented, approachable, and completely committed to leaving my audience better than I found them.

As a trainer I…

  • Challenge people’s thinking without being challenging.
  • Help people see things in a different way, without making them wrong about the old way.
  • Communicate with people in a way that encourages them to go out and take action.
  • Leave people with a new way of thinking and most importantly the ability to implement the tools and take action immediately.

I don’t bring the old tired and weary content repackaged. I do bring new, fresh, and accessible ideas. Audiences consistently remark that they learned something brand new and heard something they had never heard before.

Facilitating

I have a knack for simplifying complex ideas and challenging topics.

People and people issues do not scare me.

I can hear what people are really saying and help people find common ground they did not even know was available to them.
